Tips for Preventing Bathroom Mold
9/12/2018 (Permalink)
The bathroom is one of mold's favorite places to grow. Hidden pipes and leaky supply lines set the room up for water damage. The daily use of water in the room increases humidity. To top it off, most bathrooms have notoriously bad air flow. You can prevent bathroom mold in your home in Laguna Beach, California, however, by combatting these problems.
Here are three mold prevention tips.
Resolve Existing Problems
If you already have mold in your bathroom, you may have to call mold remediation specialists to get rid of it before you put prevention measures in place. Tiny spots can be scrubbed away, but grout that is embedded with mold will probably need to be replaced completely. Cut the existing grout away and re-caulk the entire area so that the mold is completely gone.
Increase Air Flow
Even if your bathroom is a closed-off space or suffers frequent water damage, there are still measures you can take to make sure that the air does not become stagnant. Running a bathroom fan, particularly when you are taking a bath or shower and thus increasing the moisture level in the room, can get the air circulating and disrupt mold growth before it starts.
Control Excess Water
Unless you decide to stop bathing, you can't prevent running water on a regular basis in your bathroom. You can, however, prevent mold growth by getting rid of the excess water. After you shower, use a squeegee to wipe the shower walls and door. If you have a shower curtain, leave it open for a few minutes to allow the shower to air out while you're getting ready. If you get rid of the excess water, there are fewer places for mold to grow.
While water damage and building structure cannot always be helped, there are some things you can do to prevent the growth of mold in your bathroom. Habits that keep surfaces dry lessen the chance of mold.
